Our story

A church rooted in

this community

St Peter’s is the largest church in the Parish of Letaba – a family of four churches: St Peter’s Tzaneen, St David’s Mojadjiskloof, St Matthew’s Lenenye, and St George’s Ofcolaco. Together we support one another and work for the Kingdom of God in this region.

We are part of the Anglican Church of South Africa and the HTB Network, with a shared vision to play our part in the evangelisation of the nations, the revitalisation of the church, and the transformation of society.

Rev Tim McGowan

Rector, Parish of Letaba

Tim and his family moved to Tzaneen from Brighton, UK, in November 2024. Passionate about sharing the Word and helping people discover a vibrant, living faith. He loves running Alpha courses and is a trustee of J Tots pre-school. Also loves braaiing, being in the bush and the Rest is Politics podcast!

Becca McGowan

Kids church

Becca moved to Tzaneen with Tim and their children at the end of 2024. She runs our kids church and loves helping children know how much God loves them. Becca also works as a freelance fundraiser and is chair of trustees at J Tots. She loves swimming in the sea, reading and Plato coffee!

Rev Leah Masinga

Community Priest, St Matthew's

Leah worked as a headmistress for many years before getting ordained and leading the church in the Lenenye community. She has many grandchildren who she is helping to raise and is an incredible leader in every sphere of life.

Rev Jonathan Meintjies

Assistant Priest at St Peter's

Jonathan was Rector of St Paul's Haenertsburg until his retirement in 2024. He now supports Tim in the leadership of St Peter's and sharing the good news of Jesus in our town. He has an engineering background, is married to Jane, and loves statistics and visiting the Kruger National Park.

Eileen Botha

Parish Administrator

Eileen has been with St Peter's since December 2025 and is doing an amazing job sorting out our systems, finances and admin. Highly organised and great with people - a perfect combination. Outside work she loves being with her boys and living near the hippos!

Amy Trollip

Social media manager

Amy manages all our social media alongside working full time as a doctor at our local hospital. We are so grateful for the time and creativity she gives to St Peter's.

Peter Parrish

Resident artist & caretaker

Peter is our resident artist, running his studio from the church premises. Along with his wonderful dog Marmite, he also acts as our caretaker. Peter's artwork is incredible and he is regularly commissioned to paint for people in and around Tzaneen.

Petrus Marobela

Grounds

Petrus has been looking after the grounds at St Peter's for 36 years. His warm smile and deep knowledge of our site are irreplaceable - we cannot imagine St Peter's without him.

Josephina Ramolefe & Ruth Mogaleamalla

Buildings

Josephina and Ruth look after all our church buildings and the rectory with incredible care. They quietly serve our community week in and week out and we are so grateful for them both.
